Is the EPL title race over?

Arsenal slipped up once again and couldn’t take all three points against a bottom half of the table side while Man U won away at Derby despite being far from their best. Is this the beginning of the end of the title race and are Man Utd just going to run away with it from here or do you think Arsenal still have plenty of fight left in them?

Champions League Draw – Quarter Finals/Semis

The draw for the last eight of the champions league was done today with the biggest draw being Arsenal v. Liverpool. The fact that these two also play each other in the league inbetween the two ties also throws up some interesting strategical conundrums, especially for Arsenal as they are hunting for the league title. If you were an arsenal supporter would you rather win the league or win the Champions League (if you could only choose one)? I wonder which Arsene will end up choosing.

The other draws see Man U play Real Madrid killers Roma, Chelsea go to Turkey and Schalke 04 square off against Barcelona. If Chelsea get through against Fenerbache which I can’t see them having much trouble doing, then it’s guaranteed that one of the representatives in the final will be an English side. No pressure on Man U to make it an all English affair

Wednesday March 12-08 EPL Round-up

Spent the night screaming at the television and especially that over-priced, over-weight ponce Mido. We can cry all we want that the penalty was unjust (the ball skipping off Young’s back onto his arm while he’s staring in the complete opposite direction) but those are the calls you expect to get when your battling relegation away from home. What you don’t expect is for your first choice striker’, and I use that term loosely, to miss an absolute sitter eight yards out from goal. Just when it seemed his laziness in not sprinting hard into the box was going to pay off, he decides to try and wrap his left foot around the ball instead of choosing the easier option and letting it run across his body on to his right. What a numpty!

All and all if someone was to offer me the point before the kick off I would have bitten their hand off and the team performance was much more promising than the display we witnessed on Sunday.

I also took in the Portsmouth – Birmingham match, Fratton park hasn’t been a home for many goals this season so you can imagine my surprise when I turned on the game 10 mins late to see I’d already missed 3 of them. The game was open with both sides having plenty of chances and in the end Portsmouth ran out deserved winners.

Haven’t seen the highlights from the Chelsea – Derby match but I heard Lampard put on quite the show. This result really doesn’t do anything for the league and shouldn’t have come much as much of a shock to anyone. I’m still hoping Derby can pick up enough points from their remaining 9 games to at least beat Sunderland’s record low from two seasons ago.

My First Blog – a bit about me

A bit about me…well my name is Jeff Collins. I was born in the UK in a lovely little town called Scarborough; you may know the song ‘Scarborough Fair’ by Simon and Garfunkel, yup that was written about my birth town.

When I was young my family moved to Canada where I grew up and still live. Always stayed close to footie and growing up have immersed myself in the game. I’m a big believer in supporting your local side and I don’t have much time for those that support one of the ‘big four’ and yet have never been within a breath of their stadium. Being in Canada made it tough to support my local side; Scarborough FC and at a young age my heart quickly got taken away by another Yorkshire club Middlesbrough.

They say that you don’t choose the team you support, they choose you. Never has this been more true. The highs of supporting Boro are phenomenal, but the lows are oh so low and in abundance. Let’s just say I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to have to go through life a Boro supporter although in being one you are guaranteed two life certainties: you’ll always have something to moan about, and there’s always an excuse for a drink!

Well on this blog I plan on talking about anything I feel like, I’d say 99% will be football related however if I go of course a bit so be it. Any and all comments and feedback are welcome. Any questions I’ll do my best to answer and if I cannot I’ll find someone who can.
